Physician Suicide Awareness

Wellness initiatives to improve the physical and mental health of physicians often have components to address the fatal outcome of suicide. The effectiveness of these programs will depend on accurate understanding of the complex factors contributing to suicide. To clarify these factors, Physician Suicide Awareness reviews how people to respond to suicide death, data related physician suicide, and efforts to answer to the question, “Why do people die by suicide?”

Objectives

  • State the general demographic profile of a physician suicide decedent.
  • State the distinction between indirect and direct drivers of suicide.
  • State three components of the suicidal process - i.e. why people die by suicide.
